Why Computer Engineering Doesn’t Have a Board Exam (Philippines)
Computer Engineering doesn’t have a board exam because the course involves technology, the same reason why computer science, information technology, and other related courses don’t have as well.
This is a simple explanation but if you want to know more continue reading.
To really understand the reasons behind computer engineering’s lack of board exam, we need to understand the course computer engineering itself first.
Computer Engineering is a discipline that incorporates the science and technology behind the design and architecture of computing devices.
It often refers to the combination of the courses like electrical engineering, electronics engineering, and computer science.
Electrical and electronics engineering have board exam because the two courses share a similar approach to engineering, although both of them involves a little bit of technology such as learning a programming language, that topic is not that deep and it only focuses on the fundamentals and basics.
An older version of a programming language can be used in electrical and electronics engineering because the features of the newer version are not necessary to learn. Computer engineering on the other hand needs the newer version of a programming language to take advantage of its features and implement it in the software.
That was just a simple example of what I mean by “it involves technology” but in most cases, because computer engineering’s element is hardware and software if the software requires an update, hardware should required too.
Computer engineering is 50% hardware and 50% software. If we take out 50% of hardware it is computer science and if we take out 50% of software it is electronics and if we add a board exam to it, topics like artificial intelligence, machine learning, or robotics should not be involved in computer engineering and if that happened it is not computer engineering anymore it is now electronics engineering.
